This study examines the forms and strategies of linguistic politeness employed by students of the Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) Program at Bung Hatta University in both academic and non-academic interactions. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, guided by Brown and Levinson’s theory of politeness as the analytical framework. The findings reveal that positive politeness strategies are predominantly used among students, particularly in face-to-face communication, such as employing polite greetings, showing empathy, and maintaining harmonious discussions. However, instances of impolite expressions were also identified, especially in online communication contexts. The study further highlights that social environment, cultural background, and educational context significantly influence students’ choice of politeness strategies. This suggests the importance of integrating explicit politeness education into the PGSD curriculum to foster ethical and constructive communication skills essential for future educators.
